YEREVAN – After undergoing extensive renovations that were begun in 2008, the high school of Oshakan, a town in Armenia’s Aragatsotn Region, has emerged as one the area’s most impressive schools, with a state-of-the-art and newly furnished campus. The renovations have been implemented with the co-sponsorship of the City of Alfortville, France, and the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s French affiliate.
Currently the high school of Oshakan, which was built in the 1960s, has 535 students. Faculty members and students alike fondly recall the successive phases of the refurbishment to date. “These wonderful improvements would probably not have been possible without the longtime collaboration between the communities of Alfortville and Oshakan,” said Naira Mkrtchyan, the school’s principal. “The renovations have surpassed our expectations, as our campus has also been provided with brand-new furniture throughout.”
The fund will carry out the final few phases of the refurbishment project in the near future which will include the complete renovation of the school’s auditorium and gym, as well as a major facelift and the furnishing of the yard and sports grounds.
As sister communities, Alfortville and Oshakan continue to work together toward the completion of the renovation project. As tokens of their friendship, the two communities have named public squares after one another.
