SYDNEY: Hamazkaine Arshak & Sophie Galstaun College will be selling its surplus land after recent approval of a sub-division application.
At the invitation of the ARF Australia Tro Gomide, Galstaun College stakeholders recently met with the school Board and the Hamazkaine Regional Committee. At the meeting, participants witnessed reports of the school’s current business position, and after consulting with advisors, concluded that this action will pave the way for a more sustainable future for the community’s largest day school.
Two five-acre lots, which form part of the bushland backdrop of the College but which have remained unused for almost 20 years, will be sold off first. Galstaun College will also assess options for the sports field section of the land, which has remained underdeveloped for many years.
The remaining campus lot, which is the most substantial and encapsulates all current buildings as well as the under construction Smoky Dawson Centre Multipurpose Hall, will accommodate the future growth of Galstaun College, resolved the meeting.
The meeting heard that Galstaun College has in the last few years made major improvements in the cost efficiencies of the operation of the school while increasing student numbers and introducing various improvements including new infrastructure.
The College forecasts turning around its operational deficits to a balance budget or even surplus in the next 12 to 24 months.
Heros Grigorian, President of Hamazkaine Regional Committee, said: “The goal of all concerned is to have a school which is on a path to a debt-free and deficit-free future. The approval of our sub-division application has helped us clear that path and we have now decided to walk it.”
Community members interested in purchasing the land are encouraged to contact the Galstaun College Administration office.
