SYDNEY: On Wednesday 10 September 2014 between 8.30-9.30am, Jana Pittman, the first Australian female athlete to compete in both Summer and Winter Olympics Games will be visiting Galstaun College’s year 3 and year 4 staff and students as part of the National Health and Physical Education Day.

The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER) has asked Galstaun College to advocate how Health and Physical Education is an integral part of the curriculum in developing our students’ knowledge, understanding and skills to strengthen their sense of self.

Pittman is the National Spokesperson for National Health and Physical Education Day. Along with being a two-time 400m world champion hurdler, she won gold medals in this event at the 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games and was part of Australia’s winning 4 x 400m relay team at both events. Pittman is one of only nine athletes in the world to win world championships at the youth, junior, and senior level of an Athletics event.

Pittman is currently studying Medicine full time at the University of Western Sydney as she pursues her dream of working in preventative health.

A Statement from Galstaun College said: "There has been a scheduled media launch to go Australia-wide starting at approximately 8.30am with various media groups. ACHPER would like to take the opportunity to photograph Jana and our students together, as well as obtaining some video footage. This will then be used on the ACHPER National website and streamed through various social media sources."

"This is a wonderful opportunity for the students at our College to meet a current dual Olympian and World Champion gold medallist, as well as being able to converse with her in the area of Health, Physical Education and Sport."
