SYDNEY: The Galstaun College Alumni Association raised over $12,000 from Sydney Armenians to assist the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) in their search efforts for missing Sydney Armenian, Sevak Simonian.

The 21-year-old, who was last seen at his parents' Belrose home at about 8pm on Monday the 20th of October, is believed to be in the vast Kanangra-Boyd National Park near Oberon.

With experienced bushwalkers and SES best equipped to search the area, an online fundraiser raised over $12,000 in less than one week, with SES confirming this will significantly assist their search efforts this coming weekend.

Gilbert Verdian, who helped set up the fundraiser with Galstaun College Alumni, said: "I have just spoken to the operations manager from NSW SES who is on the ground at the command centre. He's confirmed that they will be using the donations to provide critical air support this week for the search."

He added: "Without it they would not have had any helicopters this weekend."
