SYDNEY: On 13 February, 2016, the Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) hosted Baroness Caroline Cox, a member of the United Kingdom’s House of Lords and long time humanitarian worker, to a lunchtime reception in recognition of her tireless work in support for the people of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh.

Baroness Cox of Queensbury is the Chief Executive of the Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust (HART) Foundation, and was in Sydney to promote the work her charity continues to do around the world. Although in Sydney for a short period, ANC Australia had the opportunity to host her to commemorate and reflect on all the wonderful humanitarian and human rights advocacy she has done for the Republic of Armenia, and the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh.

ANC Australia discussed a wide range of issues with Baroness Cox, including the international recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh and the current issues which residents of the Republic face of a daily basis.

During the lunch, Baroness Cox expressed her great admiration for the Armenian people saying: “The Armenians have always been true protectors of their faith and freedom, and have always been able to rise from the ashes."

ANC Australia’s Honorary Chairman, Greg Soghomonian, thanked Baroness Cox’s for affording the time to ANC Australia during her brief visit to Sydney.

“To have someone like Baroness Caroline Cox amongst us was truly inspiring," said Soghomonian. "She has proven to be a great role model over the years for all people in the field of human rights, and on an Armenian front, she has proven to be a great friend of the people of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh with her strong support for full recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and the people of Artsakh’s rights to self-determination.”
