SYDNEY: The Australian Red Carpet Premiere of Armenian Genocide epic, The Promise took place at the Hayden Orpheum in Sydney this week, with over 250 political, media and community guests encouraging all Australians to see the film when it hits cinemas this coming Thursday, 15th June 2017.

The Premiere, organised by distributors eOne and The Promise Australia Committee (which includes the Armenian National Committee of Australia, the Armenian General Benevolent Union in Australia and the Armenian Youth Federation of Australia), included an extensive guest list, headed by the Premier of Australia's largest state of New South Wales (NSW), Gladys Berejiklian.

Berejiklian was joined by NSW Parliamentary colleagues, Jonathan O'Dea MP, Walt Secord MLC, Victor Dominello MP and David Clarke MLC. The politicians were joined by prominent Australian media identities, including veteran news broadcasters, George Donikian and John Mangos. Also present were members of the media, cinema owners, leaders of the Greek and Assyrian communities, as well as Armenian clergy and community leaders.

Donikian, who travelled from Melbourne, was MC for the formal proceedings, which also included speeches from Premier Berejiklian and the organisers.

Armenia TV (Australia) was there and interviewed a large number of guests following the screening - all of whom consistently endorsed the film, while encouraging members of the Armenian-Australian community and the greater Australian community to see it (CLICK HERE FOR ARMENIA TV (AUSTRALIA)'S VIDEO FEATURING GUESTS AT THE RED CARPET PREMIERE).

The Promise - the legacy project of the late Armenian philanthropist, Kirk Kerkorian - is a 2016 American historical drama film directed by Terry George and starring Oscar Isaac, Charlotte Le Bon and Christian Bale, set in the final years of the Ottoman Empire. It features a love triangle that develops between Armenian medical student Mikael (Isaac), an American journalist based in Paris named Chris (Bale) and an Armenian-born woman raised in France, Ana (Le Bon), during the final years of the Ottoman Empire, and during the Armenian Genocide.

Organisers and promoters are encouraging Australians to participate in #OPERATIONOPENINGWEEKEND, asking all to see the film - and take others to see it - on its opening weekend, following the release on Thursday, 15th June 2017.

"Opening weekend is the key, and we encourage anybody who wants to see The Promise to do so as close to the release date of June 15th as possible," said The Promise Australia Committee's Panos Borghonzian. "Take your friends, neighbours, staff, colleagues and watch with pride as the Armenian Genocide story is told in the most epic way possible."

The Promise will be shown in over 40 cinemas across Australia (CLICK HERE TO SEE THE LIST).
