STATEMENT

The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) congratulates the people of the Republic of Armenia on participating in what has been widely adjudicated  to be the country's most free and fair Parliamentary Elections since Independence.

Political observer missions, including those from the OSCE and PACE, have praised the elections, which are the first since the Armenian people achieved regime change through a peaceful, Velvet Revolution in May this year.

We also congratulate all 11 political parties and alliances who participated in the campaign, especially the three who were victorious in earning seats in the next National Assembly. The victors were led by incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's My Step Alliance, who earned over 70% of the people's vote.

The Armenian National Committee of Australia echoes the following words from Peter Osusky, who was the Special Coordinator of the OSCE Observer Mission: "Democracy cannot proceed without trust, so I am pleased that broad public trust was the central characteristic of this election. Now that voters have delivered their message, it is up to the political leadership of Armenia to ensure that this momentum is maintained, and that further reforms are implemented to fully consolidate the positive assessment we are making today."

Once again, congratulations to the people of the Republic of Armenia. We join them, as well as the Armenians of the Republic of Artsakh and the Diaspora in continuing our united efforts towards securing a peaceful and prosperous Armenia and Artsakh for the present and future generations.
