STATEMENT

Professor Colin Tatz AO, a pioneer of Genocide studies in Australia, sadly passed away on 19th November 2019.

The founding director of the Centre for Comparative Genocide Studies, now known as the Australian Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Professor Tatz was a recognised world authority on racial conflict and abuse, a key figure in Aboriginal Studies in Australia, and an author of major works on genocide, Aboriginal youth suicide, and Aboriginal and Islander sporting achievements.

He was an unwavering supporter and nurturer of Armenian Genocide studies in Australia, widely respected by Armenians around the world, in particular the Armenian-Australian community. Prof Tatz was bestowed with the ANC-AU’s Armenian-Australian Community's Friend of the Year honour for his contribution to genocide studies generally, and for Armenian Genocide studies in particular.

His extraordinary legacy will live on through his numerous books and academic works, as well as in the minds and hearts of the thousands of university students he taught and inspired.

Our sincere condolences to his wife and close working partner Sandra Tatz and their family.

You will be missed.
