CITY OF RYDE STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH ARMENIANS, RAISES ARTSAKH FLAG

Today, on the 30th anniversary of the liberation of the historical Armenian City of Shushi in 1992, the flag of the Republic of Artsakh was raised at Kissing Point Park at Putney in Sydney, in accordance with the unanimous passing of the Mayoral Minute of 26 April 2022.

The flag raising ceremony was Ryde Council’s expression of support for the people of Artsakh and the Armenian-Australian community.

During the ceremony, a member of the Homenetmen Scouts raised the flag, while the anthem of Artsakh played proudly in the background.

In July of 2019, the City of Ryde unanimously voted for Stepanakert and Ryde to become sister cities, becoming the 21st city to share that partnership with a city in Artsakh.

The Permanent Representative to Artsakh in Australia Mr Kaylar Michaelian commented on the proud occasion of the Armenian Australian community “the expression of solidarity from the citizens of Ryde to all citizens of the Republic of Artsakh will reverberate in each and every home and lift the spirits of the people to continue their struggle for their human right for self-determination and their God-given right to live in peace, to create and prosper on their ancestral homeland. The Australian Armenian citizens of the City of Ryde applaud the courage of the Councillors of the City of Ryde and the citizens of Artsakh thank the Mayor, Councillor Jordan Lane and Councillor Sarkis Yedelian for proposing the Motion and all Councillors for passing the motion unanimously.”
