YEREVAN (Armenpress)—Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister of Turkey Etyen Mahcupyan, who is of Armenian descent, gave an extensive interview to the Turkey’s “Just Remembrance” project, in which he talked about his activities as senior advisor, the developments ahead of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, the celebrations dedicated to Turkey’s victory in the Battle of Gallipoli and Armenian-Turkish relations.

Talking about his appointment to the office of Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister, Mahupyan stated that he fully supports the ruling Justice and Development Party. “As an intellectual and academic, I’ve always liked Ahmet Davutoglu. As a friend, I would like to see him succeed. I made the decision to become his chief advisor in three minutes. When he asked me to work with him, I said ‘of course,’” the Istanbul-born Armenian said, adding that his appointment to office had nothing to do with the Armenian Cause at all.

Touching upon the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, he once again linked the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border and the normalization of relations to Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and the Karabakh conflict.

As for the events to be held on April 24, Mahçupyan mentioned that it seems as though this period “is paralyzing people.” “I believe there will be more tranquility after April 2015,” the advisor said.

Touching upon Istanbul’s Armenian Agos Weekly, the Senior Advisor to the Turkish Prime Minister said the newspaper has ceased to exist as a body representing all Armenians and has turned into a newspaper that presents the views of left-wing individuals and represents “mundane” Armenians.
