KOZAN, Turkey (Tert)—Congregates of the Holy See of Cilicia have raised the demand for the return of the centuries-old Catholicosate of Sis to the Armenian people, reiterating the nation’s call for justice for the martyrs of the Armenian Genocide.
By order of Partriarch Aram I, a delegation from the Holy See visited the Catholicosate in the Adana province of Turkey on Saturday to attend a requiem mass commemorating the patriarchs who headed the Catholicosate from 1293, the year of its foundation, until 1915.
On behalf of Aram I, the congregation members delivered an address—the first ever patriarchal message in the past 100 years since the Armenian Genocide. It was an address to the entire Armenian nation, according to a statement on the Catholicosate’s official Facebook page.
Appreciating his predecessors’ bravery for the protection of the Armenians’ call for justice 100 years ago, the Catholicos reaffirmed the Holy See’s commitment to stand by the Armenian people’s rightful demand for the return of the Catholicosate of Sis.
The delegation included Husik Martirosyan, the Armenian Church’s prelate in Cyprus, and Archimandrite Torgom Tonoyan, a warden of the monastery of Dprevank.
