YEREVAN (ARKA)—The families of 9 Armenian citizens who were killed in a bus crash earlier this month near the Russian city of Tula will receive 1.5 million drams in assistance from the Armenian government, the Transport and Communications Ministry said today.

Fourteen passengers with injuries who continue to be treated in hospitals in both Armenia and Russia will receive 700,000 drams each, while the remaining passengers will receive 500,000 drams, the ministry said. The decision to compensate the victims was made by a special government commission set up to handle the accident.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan will submit the draft decision for cabinet approval on Thursday. Compensation will be paid after the decision enters into force.

The bus was traveling to Yerevan from Moscow with 59 passengers on board when the accident occurred. According to Russian authorities, the Yerevan-bound bus crashed in Russia’s Tula region because the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
