YEREVAN (ARMENPRESS)—Cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and Iran will positively impact not only bilateral trade turnover, but also the development of the economies of other regional countries, contributing to regional peace and stability, Minister of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Ara Nranyan, told the journalists today.
“In this regard we expect not only bilateral trade increase, but also qualitative change in the economies of the regional countries which will foster regional peace and stability. And it is not accidental that India and China are interested in the implementation of [the] North-South project via Iran and Armenia. Such a project will shape a new geopolitical reality and will secure [the] EEU’s access to the South,” Nranyan said.
According to Nranyan, by cooperating with Iran, the EEU gains access to the Persian Gulf and Asia with using shorter route.
Nranyan added that Armenia, which is the only country of the EEU that shares a border with Iran, was one of the initiators of the Iran-EEU negotiation process.
“Moreover, Armenian business has vast experience in cooperation with Iranian companies and markets, which will undoubtedly be considered during EEU activities,” he added.
