YEREVAN (Armenpress)— On December 24, President Serzh Sarkisian met with Energy Minister of Iran and co-chair of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission Hamid Chitchian to discuss the relations between the two countries and to further their dialogue. The President mentioned how important it was to meet regularly and how the 13^th session of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission was being held exactly a year following the previous.

Sarkisian hopes that the agenda of bilateral cooperation will further improve due to the session of the commission, and that new agreements will be reached. Sarkisan also stressed great importance to the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission and the personal contribution of Chitchian. The dialogue and mutual trust between the two states will contribute to further expanding on the agenda they have created and help develop the cooperation that already exists, according to Sarkisian.

Both leaders discussed how important it is to foster trade relations and utilize the great potential in the region. Chitchian explained how joint projects, especially regarding infrastructure between the two states were of great interest for Iran. The sides also discussed opportunities for new projects and mutually beneficial investments.

Sarkisian and Chitchian also referred to issues about regional cooperation. They expressed satisfaction over the fact that North-South energetic project becomes a reality which supposes a parallel work between the respective agencies of Iran, Armenia, Georgia and Russia. In Iran’s Energy Minister’s opinion, the meeting between responsible agencies of four countries that took place yesterday was an important and effective step in terms of solidarity among those regional states and stimulates a new quality to both bilateral and multilateral cooperation formats.
