YEREVAN (Public Radio of Armenia) — According to Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yervand Zakharyan, no negotiations with the Armenian authorities on the supply of Iranian gas to Georgia have taken place.

He also noted that the topic was not on the agenda of the meeting of the Energy Ministers of Armenia, Russia, Georgia and Iran held last December.

Zakharyan reminded that Georgia and Gazprom are holding talks on gas supply, but there’s no information about the results of the negotiations so far.

Earlier this month, Iran’s national gas company had announced that Georgia held negotiations with Iran on possible imports of Iranian national gas through Armenia.

The Head of the National Iranian Gas Exporting Company, Ali-Reza Kameli had not specified the reaching of any agreement based on the last talks.

Armenia imports up to 500 million cubic meters of Iranian gas annually through a pipeline that was inaugurated in 2008. The pipeline’s maximum capacity is estimated at 2 billion cubic meters per year.

Georgia normally purchases most of their gas from Azerbaijan. Since last October, they have been considering purchasing from Russia or Iran, importing possibly through Armenia.
