SYDNEY: The end of summer at Galstaun College is heralded by the Swimming Carnival, which was held in 2011 at Warringah Aquatic Centre.

This year, the House Competition has become much stronger, so students came dressed in House colours ready to support their teams: Vartan in the distinctive red, Gomidas in sunny yellow, Karzou looking leafy in green and Mesrob, supported by their own pet Avatar, in blue.

During lunchtimes, students had been practicing their chants ready to compete in the cheering competition, which was ultimately won by Gomidas.

As Miss Band and Mrs Cassar ably marshalled hundreds of competitors, Miss Hammond fulfilled the duties of official starter with Miss Garawel, Mrs Stachersky, Mrs Vartanians, Miss Getley, Mrs Movsisian and Mrs Tavitian working all day as timekeepers.

Mr Chahrozian, Mr Shokayan and Mr Demirdjian recorded the winners’ House Points while Mrs Cumming did the judging and Mrs Blanden handed out ribbons.

After the myriad races in freestyle, backstroke, the relays and the special races, came the climax of the event - the hotly contested Staff v Student Race. Year 12 fielded an impressive team that looked like winners, but in the end the speed and style of the Teachers prevailed.

The Athletics Carnival will be held in August when Year 12 will no doubt hope to claim the crown.
