YEREVAN (ARKA )—Armenia’s national postal operator, HayPost, together with the Ministry of Finance announced the launch of HayPost’s new service, “ShopInAmerica,” an online portal that will allow residents of Armenia to purchase tax-free goods from the US. ShopInAmerica launched on August 1.
As part of a framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Finance and HayPost, modifications to import customs legislation have allowed for the import of tax-free goods to Armenia.
Due to these amendments in the law and the mentioned collaboration with the ministry of finance, HayPost now hopes to facilitate the purchasing process of goods from the US through ShopInAmerica.
Now residents of Armenia can make customs clearance on goods they are importing and pay their custom duties at HayPost offices acrossArmenia. HayPost staff have reportedly undergone intensive customs clearance training to effectively manage imports. The customs clearance process will contribute to more transparency on imports and increase state revenue.
Collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and HayPost began over a year ago. As a result, HayPost developed and launched the new online shopping and shipment service for customers in Armenia. Using shopinamerica.am, customers in Armenia can register and obtain a US postal address at the newly opened HayPost office in Glendale, California.
Customers will be able to purchase goods in the US online, which will then be delivered to the HayPost office in Glendale. From there, they will be shipped to a HayPost office in Armenia nearest to the customer.
“We are happy and proud to launch ShopInAmerica. At HayPost, we believe that this new service, unprecedented in Armenia, will be a great success in unlocking a new market for Armenian consumers and entrepreneurs, as they will have a fast and reliable access to a world of opportunities,” said managing director of HayPost Trust Management, Juan Pablo Gechidjian, in a statement.
“Our newly-opened HayPost office in Glendale enables us to ensure swift and safe delivery of a wide range of goods directly from the US to HayPost offices in Armenia without the need to go through customs, as the customers can enjoy tax free imports of goods to Armenia if they make purchases of up to AMD 200,000 and 30 kg per month. This unique platform will contribute to increase the trade between Armenia and the U.S. It is our goal to improve and expand our services to meet the needs of our customers and to bridge Armenia with the rest of the world. Now, you can shop like you live in America,” said Gechidjian.
Shopinamerica.am launched on August 1.
