SYDNEY - smh.com.au: WORLD champion super-flyweight Vic Darchinyan will fight what is likely to be his last bout in Australia when he takes on Filipino Richard Garcia in Sydney next month.

The Armenian-Australian's manager, Elias Nasser, said the bout would take place at Parramatta Leagues Club on May 20. It will be the first time Darchinyan has fought in Australia since 2007, and could well be his last fight here.

''The Raging Bull'' is a proven drawcard in the United States and his rematch with Nonito Donaire in Los Angeles this August is described as one of the sport's most anticipated bouts.

The pair developed a bitter rivalry in the aftermath of the Filipino's shock TKO victory during the fifth round of their fight in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 2007. However, Darchinyan's reputation has grown since the loss. The 34-year-old southpaw holds both the WBC and WBA titles and his penchant for devastating knockout victories has gained him a strong supporter base in the US. He's also featured on US broadcasting giants Showtime 11 times - considered an incredible achievement by the industry's standards.

The great Kostya Tszyu recently added to Darchinyan's legend by describing him as being slightly ahead of IBO world champion Danny Green and Anthony Mundine as Australia's best fighter.

''This could be the last time Vic fights in Australia, so it'll be a special occasion,'' said his trainer, Angelo Hyder.

''We realise it's very important for Vic to remain active, that's why we are taking the fight a few months ahead of Donaire. It's important he maintains a training/fighting schedule.''

As a thank you to Darchinyan's army of Australian supporters, Hyder said the Garcia fight would be shown free of charge on Foxtel.
