Darchinyan threatens to bash and smash Montiel

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian-Australian WBA and WBC super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (36-2-1,27KO's) is not happy with recent comments made by WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (43-2-2, 33 KOs) who stated the current IBO bantamweight champion is running scared of him.

Darchinyan, who won the IBO title in May by outpointing Eric Barcelona, says that Montiel has only fought one real fighter in Johnny Gonzalez and that he lacks courage to fight the Australian-based, Armenian-born champion.

"Montiel needs to get his head right and stop believing the fairytales Top Rank have been telling him," Darchinyan said.

"I would fight Montiel today," he continued. "The same thing will happen to Montiel as happened to his brother, he will be bashed and smashed."

Darchinyan added: "It's big of Montiel to talk now. He had the chance to take part in a tournament to see who is the best but didn't want anything to do with it. You know why? Because the four fighters in this tournament are real and will punch back. Go back to fighting no names Fernando, that's the reason why you can't make it on US TV, because like Donaire you're a pretender."

Darchinyan is scheduled to defend the IBO championship against Mexican Abner Mares (20-0-1, 15 KOs) on December 11 in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. Mares boxed a twelve round draw against Yonnhy Perez in an IBF title attempt in May.
