SYDNEY: Last week's SPECIAL EDITION newsletter covering the contentious protocols to be signed by the Armenian and Turkish governments solicited a spirited response from Armenia Online readers. The following are a selection of the responses....

Dear readers, please send your own letter to the editor on any topic of interest to Armenian-Australians by emailing them to info@armenia.com.au.

"With all due respect to President Sargsyan, he does not speak on behalf of ALL Armenians around the world, only his own governmental jurisdiction (even that can be questioned once the public in Armenia make their opinions known).

This should be put to the whole Armenian community at large for consideration. At present, his intentions are more than dangerous, they are downright contemptual towards all the struggles and efforts made by so many since the Genocide."

- Koharig Boulghourjian

"Dear Editor,

This Protocol as proposed by Turkey places Armenia in its lowest common denominator position, since genocide in 1915."

- Dr Sarkis Nalbandian

"What we really want as an Armenian?

What we can achieve being an enemy to Turkey or Turkish people (including government).

Do we really have a power to push to turks, accept our demands? Is it a smart policy to being an opposition, any talk or anything between Armenia and Turkey?

How long we can continue like that. As an Armenian, we should not forget that Armenia is one of the poorest country in the world. (Some african countries better than us). Our population is decreasing every year. At least about 300,000 working in Turkey every year. Many Armenian ready to leave the country. We have no strong economy and no Petrol too...

Do we really want to bag other countries to help us or help our cause? That 's not an Armenian way of life. We are harwdorking people and we deserve better life.

Politicians and Armenian churches (which is most of them acting like a politician) should ask themselves this question. How long they can continue100 more years?

Sorry, but as an Armenian, I do not have that much time...

I believe that Armenians and Turks lived together almost 1000 year and they can live again at least as a neighbour if politicians change their classical hatred policy... Armenian people has to make this decision not to politicians or church...

I am supporting any good relations between Armenia and Turkey (even smallest steps could fire good relations amongst two neighbours).

I am not sure you will publish my letter but anyway , this is my best wishes for Armenian People.."

- Z.Ayvazian, Melbourne

"I personally think that by opening up the borders between Turkey and Armenia will then be sending the message that Armenia is happy to deny the genocide. That Armenia is happy to forget the masscre, bloodshed, rape and other atrocities committed in 1914. It would also signal that Armenia has little value towards its Christian beliefs since it so readily will welcomes its Muslim neighbours.

This would also assist Turkey in fast tracking its goal to becoming part of the EU, which it much desires. Currently the denial of the genocide by Turkey is a trump card for Armenia and holding this against them has contributed towards their lack of acceptance as part of the EU.

This is a ridiculous protocol to sign and Armenia would be foolish to do so."
