SYDNEY: The Armenian Church Youth of Australia (ACYA) held a #walkforsyria event on Sunday 1st June, raising $5,000 for the suffering Armenians of Syria.

With a prayer and blessing from Father Bartev, more than 100 walkers set off from the Armenian Apostolic Church in Chatswood and headed for Davidson Park.

The walkers, wearing ACYA t-shirts, were in high spirits as they reached the Roseville Bridge and continued to the beautiful picnic area along Middle Harbour Creek. There they were greeted with the wonderful smells coming from the BBQ that had been prepared for the occasion.

The comradeship amongst the participants was evident to see as the afternoon was spent eating, talking and of course, playing the obligatory soccer game.

An organiser said: "As news continues to reach us of the hardships being suffered by our brothers and sisters in Syria, our mission of love, unity and charity raised over $5,000. Many thanks to all those wonderful people who supported this great cause through registration, sponsorship, donations, food and by other means."
