SYDNEY: Sydney Armenians are set to experience a once-in-a-lifetime cultural extravaganza this August, when Zvartnots Dance Ensemble of Los Angeles visits to perform alongside the Hamazkaine Armenian Sydney Dance Company.

Over two nights, The Concourse in Chatswood will host concerts featuring the 40 young Armenian-American dancers along with their Armenian-Australian counterparts.

The Zvartnots Dance Ensemble was founded in 1989 by then 18-year-old Vartan Aghajanyan, who remains its choreographer along with Armine Aghajanyan. The two will be joining the 40 dancers on the trip to Sydney.

Harmick Hacobian, chairman of the Hamazkaine Armenian Sydney Dance Company, said he expects the community will be wowed by the performances they will witness on stage.

"We are delighted that the Zvartnots Dance Ensemble of Los Angeles has accepted our invitation to perform with our own dance troupe here in Sydney," Hacobian said.

"We encourage our community to support these events in August by attending and participating in what will be a memorable experience."

The Hamazkaine Armenian Sydney Dance Company is known for its ability to "put on a show". In 2010, over 1,600 Sydney Armenians attended their last cultural extravaganza, which featured a dozen entertainers from Armenia and the United States performing with over-200 members of the dance troupe.
