YEREVAN-At what was termed an "extraordinary" congress, the Heritage Party Sunday elected Armenia's first foreign minister and party founder as its chairman, according to a press release issued by the party.
The 350 delegates unanimously adopted the convention's declaration entitled "Heritage's Frontline: A Resolution for Armenia and the Armenian People," which outlines the party's position on issues such as Armenia-Turkey relations, the Karabakh conflict resolution and the domestic situation in Armenia.
The congress elected a 11-member board, which elected Hovannisian as its chairman and former Armenian Revolutionary Federation member Rouben Hakopyan as its vice-chairman.
Last September, disagreements between former board majority and four other senior party members resulted in the latter being expelled from the party ranks in very public dispute.
