“I think Armenia’s membership in the Customs Union will be legally formalized this year,” he told Russian RIA Novosti.
Khristenko said the presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan were told about Armenia’s accession progress at a summit of the Eurasian Economic Commission on March 5 in Moscow.
“We can say that over the two months that have passed since the previous summit in December, Armenia has taken big steps in the implementation of its accession requirements,” the chairman said.
The 250-page “roadmap” for Armenia’s accession was agreed to by the presidents of the union’s three member states as well as Armenia at a summit in Moscow last December.
It lists 262 administrative and legislative actions, concerning 20 areas of government policy, that Armenia must take in order to join. Khrsitenko said he was optimistic about Armenia’s ability to implement the changes.
