STEPANAKERT (Armenpress) — The contact line of Karabakh and Azerbaijian was relatively quiet from February 3-4. However, during this period, instead of Azerbaijan using mortar attacks like they have in the past, they used various rifle weapons to attacks a number of Armenian positions, according to the Artsakh Defense Ministry.
Defense Army’s frontier troops mostly refrained from direct response and took restrictive measures in case of need.
Meanwhile, the press service of Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced on February 4 that allegedly an Azerbaijani soldier was killed as a result of a subversive action conducted by the Armenian side on Armenia-Azerbaijan border on February 3.
However, Armenian Defense Ministry announced that the press release of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry does not coincide with the reality.
According to Armenia’s Defense Ministry, the death case registered in the armed forces of Azerbaijan is lie and is a result of non-statutory relationships. The Azerbaijani side has once again tried to distort the reality by misinforming the public and providing unreasonable accusations against the Armenian side.
We once again stress the necessity to invest mechanisms for investigating incidents on the state border of Armenia and Azerbaijan and the contact line of Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone aimed at reducing and preventing possible incidents caused by armed confrontation.
