YEREVAN(Armenpress) — According to the Deputy Economy Minister of Artsakh Sergey Shahverdyan, the number of foreign tourists that travel to Artsakh has increased to 30-40% annually.
“We experienced growth in 2014, but it eventually declined. In 2015, we experienced a record number in growth. We recorded a 13% increase in foreign tourists in 2015. Tourists visit Artsakh mainly from the US, Europe, Russia, and various Muslim countries. Generally, we can say that tourism develops dynamically in Artsakh,” Shahverdyan said.
The Artsakh Ministry of Economy makes use of different platforms to foster tourism, including exhibitions, information technologies, and utilizing social networks.
According to the Deputy Minister, archeological, cultural, and hiking tours have even developed in Artsakh. Shahverdyan stated that the culture of ethnic minorities having once lived in Artsakh is part of the cultural heritage of Artsakh. “Its best demonstration is the preservation of Mosques in Shushi and Aghdam. Tourists visiting Artsakh note that, unlike in Azerbaijan, cultural values are preserved in Artsakh,” Shahverdyan concluded.
