YEREVAN (RFE/RL)—Armenia’s Minister for Emergency Situations Armen Yeritsian died at the age of 55 on Tuesday.
Yeritsian was taken to Yerevan’s Nairi Medical Center and placed in intensive care there on Monday evening.
The hospital’s director, Anatoly Gnuni said that his death was caused by a “long and serious illness.” Gnuni did not elaborate.
Yeritsian, who would have turned 56 on December 25, has run the Armenian Ministry for Emergency Situations since 2010. A former police officer, he previously held senior positions in the Armenian police.
