Serviceman Artyom Khachatryan, born in 1999, was killed by Azerbaijani fire Thursday at about 5:05 local time in the military positions of the Artsakh Defense Army in the northern direction of the Artsakh-Azerbaijan border, reported the Artsakh Defense Ministry.
Following a period of relative calm on the frontlines, Khachatryan was the secon Armenian soldier to be killed in two weeks. Artsakh soldier Sipan Melikyan was killed by Azerbaijani sniper fire on June 1.
Khachatryan was from the Malishka village of Armenia’s Vayots Dzor Province and was going to be complete his tour of duty in 20 days, according to the military registration office of the Vayots Dzor Province, reported News.am.
The head of Malishka village Garik Nazaryan said the deceased soldier has an older brother and sister.
In a military operation last weekend, Armenian Defense Forces successfully retaliated against Melkonyan’s killing with official Baku confirming the death of one Azerbaijani soldier.
