MESSAGE FROM NEW GALSTAUN COLLEGE PRINCIPAL, EDWARD DEMIRDJIAN

'' I am delighted to be appointed Principal of Galstaun College and look forward to leading our dedicated and hard-working staff in delivering quality education and fulfilling the ethos and vision of the College. My time and experiences at Galstaun College have allowed me to gain a unique understanding of its needs and challenges. Throughout that time, I have established strong relationships with all relevant stakeholders and earned the respect of students, parents and teachers. My passion and commitment to quality education, the college and community will ensure that Galstaun College will be the choice of schooling for Armenian families.

My first priority is to implement processes and policies to enhance the College’s academic standards and create an academic culture which will help deliver academic excellence. It is extremely important that we implement measures that meet the individual needs of each student in order to ensure that each student enjoys academic success and achieves his or her personal best. At Galstaun College, our dedicated teachers and staff will ensure the delivery of quality education in a disciplined learning environment where students are accountable for their actions.

The College will continue to provide a safe, nurturing and dynamic learning environment where students are given every opportunity to thrive academically, socially and personally. Through the creation and nurturing of a culture of care and collaboration, students are provided with the confidence and skills to succeed.  Our small classes, pastoral care and mentoring programs provide unique opportunities where students are given individual care and attention.

Students will continue to be encouraged to contribute to the life of the College by participating in a wide range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Opportunities will be provided for our students to demonstrate leadership and responsibility and participate in a wide range of activities. The implementation of various initiatives such asthe Duke of Edinburgh program, and our participation and involvement in ASISSA, CDSSA and PISA sporting associations allow our students to enjoy opportunities to excel and demonstrate teamwork and school spirit.

The College has a responsibility to foster and preserve the Armenian identity and instill activities and processes that cultivate the Armenian language and culture. Students will be taking an active role in demonstrating pride in their identity and will be provided with the tools and knowledge to lead the community into the future. Our accelerated Armenian program allows our students to complete their HSC in Armenian in Year 11 and the annual pilgrimage to Armenia allows our students to have a deep appreciation and respect for their Armenian culture and identity.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Nishan Basmajian for his support and leadership in reinforcing the Armenian traditions of the College as well as implementing financial systems which have ensured the sustainability of this college. His dedication and commitment to the college is greatly appreciated.''
