YEREVAN (ARKA)—Cooperation with Microsoft is making Armenia competitive in the global information technology market, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said today during a meeting with Microsoft director for Central and Eastern Europe, Don Grantham.
The prime minister praised the long-term cooperation with the corporation, saying that the Armenian government is ready to deepen and develop this cooperation further, according to the government press service.
In turn, Grantham said he was happy to see progress in the fruitful collaboration of Microsoft with the government of Armenia, and thanked the prime minister for help in the implementation of various programs.
During the meeting, the sides discussed also protection of intellectual property and the fight against cybercrime. Abrahamyan stressed the importance of intensifying cooperation between Microsoft and the Armenian defense ministry.
There are currently 500 IT firms in Armenia. In 2014, $50 million worth of products and services were exported from Armenia. The IT sector makes up approximately 3.8% of Armenia’s annual GDP.
