YEREVAN (Combined Sources)—The left-wing Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has announced that it will recognize the Armenian Genocide if elected in the upcoming snap elections in Turkey, slated to take place on November 1.

Party co-leader Figen Yuksekdag made the announcement during a join meeting with party chairman, Selahattin Demirtas.

“Peoples Demicratic Party (HDP) will carry out appropriate activities for reaching an apology on the state’s part for the genocides and massacres committed against different peoples during its history,” Yuksekdag stated, after which the attendees reportedly began applauding.

Yuksekdag also stated that the illegal economic embargo currently in place against the Republic of Armenia would be lifted.

“By lifting the economic embargo on Armenia we will develop the necessary economic, political and diplomatic relations and build bridges of friendship with the Armenian people,” Yuksekdag stated.

In addition to the establishment of diplomatic relations with Armenia without preconditions, the pro-Kurdish party’s platform, released on October 2, also promises to help reach a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabkh conflict.

A snap parliamentary election will take place in Turkey on November 1 after a coalition government could not be formed following months of political instability and violence in recent weeks, after the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) failed to maintain its majority for the first time since coming to power in 2002.
