YEREVAN (Armenpress)—Hamshen-Armenian film director Ozcan Alper’s movie on Armenian Genocide will be shown in Turkey according to Alper’s interview with Istanbul’s “New Marmara”newspaper.
The movie titled “Memories of the Wind” which takes place in the 1940s, tells the story of an oppositionist journalist Aram who starts having flashbacks of his memories from the Armenian Genocide. These memories cause him to suffer and relive his inescapable past.
The director stated that his goal with the film was to raise matters of the past, because the past shapes and defines the present and the future. “One is unable to escape from the past. If it is driven out the door, then it will enter from the chimney. Ignoring the past, you cannot reach any place… I am forty years old and I just became a father. I hope that when my daughter will be forty years old, she will not have to think about the same question what I am doing now. Therefore, my films are engaged in creating a new ‘today’.”
He also criticized the events taking place today in Turkey, saying “What did happen to us? There are dead bodies in the street; corpses were not handed over to their owners on the border.”
