Mkhitaryan awarded medal for ‘services to the motherland’

YEREVAN—President Serzh Sarkisian awarded Henrikh Mkhitaryan with a First Degree Medal for “Services to the Motherland” during a ceremony on May 28, among a group of individuals who have contributed to the sciences, education, healthcare, economy, arts, culture, and sports.

The captain of the Armenian National Team, who is also a midfielder for Manchester United, received the order for his ‘brilliant performances and for worthily presenting Armenia to the world.

Mkhitaryan in a Facebook post on Sunday wrote “Honoured to receive a ‘1st degree Medal for Services to the Motherland’ from the President of #armenia.

“Today we celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the First Republic of Armenia. In the last 99 years, many values have been created – material, spiritual, technological,” said Sarkisian in his remarks at the ceremony. “They are the results of the labor of dedicated and professional individuals, of their talent and purposefulness.”

“Nowadays, you have come to take their place, and our society takes pride in your efforts and dedication,” he continued.

The award ceremony took place on the occasion of Republic Day on May 28, the 99th anniversary of the First Republic of Armenia.
