A symposium on the Armenian Genocide titled "1915 Within Its Pre- and Post-Historical Periods: Denial and Confrontation," which was to be held in Ankara, was cancelled on April 21 after facing political and bureaucratic hurdles.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on July 10 that genocide was being committed in China's northwest province of Xinjiang and called on Chinese authorities to intervene to prevent more deaths.
