YEREVAN (Combined Sources)—Armenia’s Deputy Defense Minister Ashot Hovakimyan and US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern signed an agreement Tuesday on cooperation between the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia and the US Department of Defense on assistance in border security to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
The agreement is aimed at revealing and preventing the illegal transport of such weapons, related technologies and materials through Armenia, training specialists, as well as appointing technical representatives of the US to Armenia.
Also on Tuesday, a delegation of the Federal Council on Defense and Security of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation held meetings at the Armenian Ministry of Defense.
The delegation was hosted by Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Colonel General Yuri Khachaturov.
During the meetings the parties discussed the condition of the Russian military base 102 in Armenia and the specifics of its activity, the Defense Ministry press service reported.
