SOCHI, Russia (Armenpress)—Members of the Armenian Olympic team of skiers Sergey Mikayelian, Artur Yeghoyan, Katya Galstian and alpine skier Arman Serebrakian participated in the opening ceremony of the XXII Winter Olympic Games at the “Fisht” Olympic Stadium in Sochi. Armenpress reported that Sergey Mikayelian was the flag bearer of the Armenian team during the march.
The President of Armenia Serzh Sarkisian, the President’s Chief of Staff Vigen Sargsyan, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukian, and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Yuri Vardanian attended the opening of the Olympic Games.
The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin opened the ceremony. Well-known opera singer Anna Netrebko performed the Olympic Anthem.
98 medals in 15 sports will be awarded in Sochi for the Winter Olympic Games. The closing ceremony of the games will take place on February 23.
