YEREVAN—Secretary of State Hilary Clinton had a telephone conversation with President Serzh Sarkisian Thursday focusing on Karabakh.
The presidential press service issued a statement saying, “the sides discussed issues pertaining to the current stage of negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement” without elaborating further on the conversation.
According to RFE/RL, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry announced earlier Thursday t that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was due to pay a working visit to Armenia where he would meet with President Sarkisian and his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian. The Ministry’s press office did not elaborate.
During a joint press conference Wednesday in Moscow, where Nalbandian and Lavrov met, the Russian Foreign Minister announced that his president, Demitry Medvedev will be unveiling a new package for the Karabakh negotiations in the near future, reported the Voice of Russia.
He also claimed that the Karabakh talks had reached a final stage and stressed that “it is time for making decisions.”
According to Azeri press sources, Lavrov is also scheduled to visit Baku.
