STEPANAKERT—Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Army private Arman Ghukasyan, 20, was killed on Wednesday at the northern border of Karabakh and Azeri border. According to the Karabakh Defense Ministry Ghukasyan was working on a construction project when Azeri forces began firing in his direction, reported Yerkir Media.
Another soldier, 19-year-old Varazdat Zakarian was injured during the attack and was transported to a hospital in Stepanakert.
On Thursday, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic President Bako Sahakian posthumously awarded Ghukasyan with the “For Service in Battle” medal for courage shown during the defense of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic state border.
The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Army Investigative Service confirmed late Thursday that an investigation into the incident has been launched.
