STEPANAKERT—The Artsakh Republic Defense Army held fresh military drills on Friday near the eastern border with Azerbaijan.

Army regiments, warplanes, and combat helicopters took part in the military exercises, which were overseen by Artsakh President Bako Sahakian and Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian.

President Sahakian said the exercises were for training tactical skills as well as for improving combat readiness.

The President once again vowed to support the army to the full extent of the state’s ability.

The drills took place in the backdrop of a meeting in Moscow between Armenian and Azeri foreign ministers Edward Nalbandian and Elmar Mammadyarov, in the presence of the U.S., Russian, and French co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.

The foreign ministers discussed a possible meeting between the two countries’ presidents, the co-chairs said in a press statement.
