Chairman Royce meets with Artsakh President

Chairman Ed Royce meets with Artsakh President Bako Sahakian

YEREVAN—House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Ed Royce (R-Calif.) met with the president of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakian Friday at the Permanent Representation of Karabakh to Armenia headquarters.

Several issues related to the resolution of the Karabakh conflict were discussed, as were processes that impact the region. Both parties emphasized that importance of a peaceful resolution to the conflict within framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Sahakian said that official Stepanakert attaches importance to developing relations with the United States, home to millions of Armenians.

Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Foreign Minister Karen Mirzoyan joined Sahakian during the meeting.

“We were pleased that House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce held constructive talks with President Sahakyan of the independent Nagorno Karabakh Republic regarding U.S. leadership, within the OSCE Minsk Group, in helping to facilitate a peaceful resolution of issues related to Artsakh’s international status and long-term security,” said ANCA Chairman Ken Hachikian. “It always holds special meaning for Americans of Armenian heritage to reinforce the bonds of friendship between the people of America and Artsakh – based on our commonly-held values, commitment to peace, and shared democratic aspirations.”

A delegation of ANCA leaders traveled to Yerevan earlier this week to welcome Chairman Royce and his colleagues to Armenia. The Congressional delegation included Ranking Member Elliot Engel, Congressman David Cicilline, and Congresswoman Lois Frankel.

Hachikian is joined by ANCA National Board member Raffi Hamparian, ANCA Western Region Chairwoman Nora Hovsepian, ANCA-Easter Region Chairman Steve Mesrobian, longtime Orange County community leader Sylvie Tertzakian and ANCA Legislative Affairs Director Raffi Karakashian.
