Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I, accompanied by members of the Bishops' Synod from around the world, offer prayers at the eternal flame of the Dzidzernagapert Armenian Genocide Memorial in Armenia
The leaders of the Armenian episcopates from different countries, headed by Karekin II and Aram I, laid flowers at the Eternal Flame in Dzidzernagapert in memory of 1.5 million innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide, after which they held a memorial service.
Aram I stressed that the centennial of the Armenian Genocide will be marked by two important events.
“The 100th anniversary of the Genocide must become a crucial milestone in the development of our nation’s history,” Aram I said. “For 100 years we remembered and reminded others about the Genocide; now it is time for new demands, time for new colors in our history. It is absolutely important to remember the 100th Anniversary, organise events, remember our martyrs; however, I think there should be two important events. First, we should canonize the martyrs of the Genocide as the martyrs of the faith and of the country. Second, we must organise initiatives in Armenia and the Diaspora that illustrate the Armenian people’s firm resolve in seeking justice,” said Aram I.
