Soldier killed in Artsakh, OSCE monitors border

YEREVAN (Armenpress)—The Defense Ministry of Nagorno-Karabakh announced that on Thursday, August 4 at 9:30am soldier Vahan V. Mikayelyan (b. 1997) received fatal wounds in the conservation area of a military unit located north of the Karabakh Defense Army.

The details of the case are still unknown. An investigation is underway to clarify the details.

“The Defense Ministry shares grief of the loss and extends condolences to the family members, relatives and fellow servicemen of the fallen soldier.”

On August 3, in accordance with the arrangement reached with the authorities of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, the OSCE Mission conducted a planned monitoring of the border between the armed forces of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan, in the Askeran direction near Bash Karvend village.

From the positions of the Karabakh Defense Army, the monitoring was conducted by Field Assistant of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Jiri Aberle (Czech Republic) and staff member of the Office Peter Svedberg (Sweden).

From the opposite side of the border, the monitoring was conducted by Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk and his Field Assistant Khristo Khristov (Bulgaria).

The monitoring passed in accordance with the agreed schedule. No violation of the cease-fire regime was registered. However, the Azeri side did not lead the OSCE mission to its front-lines.

From the Karabakh side, the monitoring mission was accompanied by representatives of the Artsakh Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry.
