On the last day of the Greco-Roman competition of the Junior European Championships being held in Pontevedra, Spain, Armenian representatives won gold, silver and bronze medals, with Makhas Amoyan being named the Junior European champ in his weight catergory.

In addition to Amoyan, Hayk Melikyan (67 kg) became a silver medalist and Sahak Hovhannisyan (60 kg) won a bronze medal, Armenia’s National Olympic Committee reported.

Amoyan match was against Moldavian Mihai Petic. The young Armenian won 8-0 in 2 minutes 30 seconds.

Earlier on Tuesday the wrestler entered the competition from the qualification round after registering four victories. He outmatched his Italian (9-0), Turk (6-1), Georgian (8-4) and Russian (5-4) opponents to make it to the final.

Hayk Melikyan competed with Georgian Georgi Shotadze in the final and lost 0-9.

On Tuesday, Melikyan started the match from the 1/8 finals, overcoming Serbia’s (8-0), Austria’s (14-5) and Russia’s (10-1) representatives and qualifying for the final.

Sahak Hovhannisyan (60 kg) claimed a confident 9-0 win over Ukrainian Miroslav Sloviani in the fight for bronze.

Karen Khachatryan (82 kg) who had lost earlier worked his way up to a bronze medal but on Wednesday lost in the second rematch round and dropped out of the fight.

On Tuesday, Hrachya Poghosyan (63 kg) became a bronze medalist.

The Armenia junior Greco-Roman wrestling team participated in the European Championship with nine athletes and ended its performances with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
