Putin, Pashinyan Discuss EEU During Phone Call

President Vladimir Putin of Russia and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Friday held a phone conversation, which according to an official readout from the Kremlin, focused on the upcoming Eurasian Economic Union summit, scheduled for October in Yerevan.

During the phone conversation the two leaders discussed the mutual partnership within the Eurasian Economic Union, taking into account Armenia’s current chairmanship of the organization.

“In particular, Putin and Pashinyan discussed the preparation works of the upcoming session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council to take place in Yerevan on October 1, as well as the prospects of expanding the EAEU foreign ties,” said the Kremlin statement.

The two leaders also discussed cooperation within the Collective Security Treaty Organization, according to the Kremlin statement, with the two leaders agreeing to continue communicating.

Pashinyan echoed the details of the statement issued by the Kremlin in Facebook post about the phone conversation.

“In recent days I had a phone conversation with the presidents of all member states of the Eurasian Economic Union. A while ago I had a phone talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin. All phone talks related to the EAEU’s ongoing and long-term agenda issues. We also discussed issues relating to the session of the EAEU Supreme Economic Council which will be held in Yerevan on October 1. Of course, all phone talks also touched upon the bilateral relations agendas,” said Pashinyan on Facebook.
