Four members of the youth wing of the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) party have been arrested as part of a “fabricated criminal case”, it said in a statement on Wednesday night.
The arrested ARF activists include Arsen Martoyan, Gor Sargsyan, Taron Manukyan and Gor Matevosyan.
“The authorities have resorted to a desperate step yet again to put pressure on members of the Resistance Movement, trying to intimidate them by depriving them of liberty,” the ARF Armenia Youth Union stated.
“We once again announce that by such means it is impossible to suppress or stop the struggle against the Turkification of Armenia.
“Dozens of other citizens who are the masters of their homeland will take to the streets instead of every arrested young man,” it said, expressing convince that the protest campaign will succeed.
Opposition protests demanding that Nikol Pashinyan step down as Armenian prime minister have been taking place in the country for over a week.
