SYDNEY: Hamazkaine’s Galstaun College has announced exceptionally strong enrolments for the 2013 Kindergarten classes (Reception and Transition).

Currently only two places remain for the 2013 Transition class and five places for the Reception class.

A statement from the Board read: "Parents are advised to secure their child’s enrolments immediately to avoid having to be placed on the waiting list for 2013. Parents who have expressed interest in a place, but not submitted a completed enrolment form are advised that places cannot be held open, but will be filled on a first come first served basis."

Since 2011 Galstaun College has accepted students at four years (if they are 'school ready') into the Kindergarten Reception class as part of the innovative 'Flying Start' program.  Reception students learn the social and academic skills that are necessary for success at school. They address Early Stage 1 Outcomes of the Board of Studies curriculum in all areas including numeracy and literacy.

After Reception, students move to Transition, where the level of work is higher and the more difficult Board of Studies outcomes are addressed prior to entering Year 1.  Flexible progression options are also available for gifted students or students with special needs.

There is a strong focus on vocabulary building in both English and Armenian, together with skill development in literacy and numeracy.

A representative of the NSW Board of Studies said that they strongly supported the program because it addresses the needs of the community and provides an improved foundation for students -  benefiting to them right through to the Higher School Certificate (HSC).

To secure enrolments or for inquiries, parents should contact the College during school hours on 9970 6984 or email admin@galstaun.nsw.edu.au.  The Community Liaison Officer, Nora Sevagian may be contacted after hours regarding enrolments on 0424 284 622.
