SYDNEY: Galstaun College students, staff and parents joined other members of the Armenian Community in welcoming the yacht “Armenia” as it entered Darling Harbour on Saturday April 30th.

The weather was grey and rainy but the hearts of hundreds of Armenian-Australians were warm and welcoming as the crew of Armenia sailed into the berth adjacent to the National Maritime Museum.

The sailors were greeted with the traditional salt and bread ceremony, a happy crowd singing Mer Hayrenik and the friendly faces of the Galstaun College students who all remembered Dr Zori Balayan from his visit to the School two months ago.

Following a blessing by priests from the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Armenian Catholic Church, the sailors were greeted by representatives of the Armenian Community in Sydney including the Hon. Gladys Berejiklian, NSW Minister for Transport.

A short concert concluded the welcome ceremony, as a highlight to this historic event.
