POSITION VACANT: Managing Editor (Part-Time)


Job Description

Armenia Media, Inc. is looking for an enthusiastic and qualified professional to lead its new media entity, which includes Armenia Online (news/features website), Armenia Mobile (iPhone/Android apps), Armenia Magazine (monthly print publication), Armenia TV (weekly YouTube broadcast), and Armenia Radio (weekly radio bulletin).

The successful candidate will be based in the Armenia Media offices in Willoughby, and will be in charge of fulfilling the following responsibilities:

●      Edit (sometimes rewrite), and publish English and Armenian news from several sources onto Armenia Online;

●      Cover local news, regularly attending community events and providing reports in English and Armenian;

●      Provide English and Armenian feature content by interviewing community leaders and members on matters of community interest;

●      Produce print-ready version of monthly magazine (Armenia Magazine) by collating key feature content from Armenia Online;

●      Roster and manage Armenia Media’s community volunteer resources (organisation representatives responsible for providing content) to ensure they are fulfilling their responsibilities and upholding schedules;

●      Roster and manage volunteer and paid staff (Armenia Online, Armenia Magazine, Armenia TV and Armenia Radio) to ensure they are fulfilling their responsibilities and upholding schedules;

●      Handle telephone and email enquiries, complaints, etc.;

●      Handle basic administrative duties;

●      Ensure appropriate exposure of advertisers;

●      Uphold Armenia Media’s Editorial Policy; and

●      Report to Armenia Media Board at monthly meetings and when required.

 

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:

●      Proven Media/Communications/Journalism qualifications OR experience;

●      Proven written and verbal grasp of English and Armenian languages;

●      Ability to type in English and Armenian (or willing to learn to type Armenian);

●      Leadership experience and/or potential;

●      Ability to work with volunteers;

●      Ability to be a team player;

●      Sound understanding of Microsoft Office products “Word” and “Excel”, and solid understanding of the internet;

●      Social Media understanding and/or experience will be beneficial, but not necessary;

●      Technical expertise will be beneficial, but not necessary.


The Managing Editor role will be a negotiated commitment of between 20-30 hours per week, with some of the days and hours flexible.

The salary rate will be dependent on experience of applying candidate.
