Homenetmen Navasart's finals fury

It was a season that looked to like it was going to end on a low for the Navasart Senior Men. With constant injuries and international travels which meant that players were missing each week, it looked like our season would be coming to an early end missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

But the season did not turn out this way. With a full squad back on the floor and a late playoff run, the team was back in the hunt overpowering the only undefeated team in the competition to secure a playoff spot only to face them again in the first round of the semi- finals.

We had our best game of the season against the first place Hipsta ballers. With good ball rotations, unbelievable shooting from guards Pat Kemkemian and Garbis Kolokossian and a great defensive effort, Navasart dominated the game from start, leaving nothing to chance and fighting for every ball possession. We were mentally and physically ready for this semi-final game and you could see it with every minute passed. The finals on the other hand were a different story.

The opposition knew exactly what they were doing with their incredible shooting and ball handling skills, and a centre that was tall enough to tower towered over Navasarts forwards. We knew this game would be a tough one but the boys did not disappoint. The first 10 minutes saw The Unicorns on a scoring rampage making every shot and catching offensive rebounds consecutively. By half time Navasart was down by 12. With a huge crowd behind us we bounced right back into the competition bringing the deficit down to only 5 with 4 minutes to go. Unfortunately tired legs and frustrated heads go the better of us with the game finishing with a final score of 27-41.

The Navasart Senior Men’s team have moved up a division and will be pushed to the limits as we take on faster and stronger teams in the 2014/15 season. This is a necessary challenge but we are looking forward to it as we also start to prepare for the upcoming Navasartian Games.
