AUSTRALIAN COMMUNITY APPEAL: Help Syrian-Armenians Now

By armenia.com.au | Thursday, 11 June 2015

Dear compatriots,

In recent months, the dangerous situation for the Armenian community living in war-torn Aleppo, Syria has escalated to new heights.

The very real threat of bombings and the financial hardship which comes part-and-parcel with any war, are placing heavy burdens on our brothers and sisters in this key Diaspora community.

Despite the stresses of the circumstances, the community leadership in Syria has vigilantly worked towards their key goals, which are:

  1. to protect Syrian-Armenians from physical harm;
  2. to assist those who wish to depart from Aleppo, with a path to new lives in Armenia.

Considering our long distance from the scenes in Aleppo, those of us here in Australia can best assist with this situation by providing financial support. This will help us assist our community members on the ground in Aleppo deal with the expenses of day-to-day necessities like food, electricity and water.

With this in mind, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Australia) Tro Gomide, the Armenian Relief Society of Australia, Homenetmen Australia, Hamazkaine Australia, the Armenian National Committee of Australia, and the Armenian Youth Federation of Australia, have decided to raise much-needed funds during the week starting Monday, 22nd June 2015.

We call on all Armenian-Australians to prepare to contribute to the several fundraising initiatives that will take place during the aforementioned week. These include:
  1. A Door-Knock Appeal for Syrian-Armenians;
  2. Online Appeal for Syrian-Armenians;
  3. Radiothon on Armenia Radio on Monday 22nd of June;
  4. Benefit Concert for Syrian-Armenians on Sunday 28th of June at Galstaun College's Nalbandian Hall, featuring singers and entertainers from the Armenian-Australian community; and
  5. Appeal to Businesses for Syrian-Armenians.

The undersigned organisations feel that it is the moral duty of all Armenians in Australia to assist our brothers and sisters in Aleppo today, to help them and our community survive into tomorrow.
